A busy autumn at Jay Bird's Larder

My goodness it has been a busy time at Jay Bird’s Larder this autumn, our feet have barely touched the ground! I wanted to write a post telling you all the exciting things that have been going on and tell you about one of our favourite events coming up at Foxlake.

The John Muir Ultra Marathon

On the 9th October, we were delighted to provide breakfast rolls and drinks to refuel the participants of The John Muir Ultra Marathon. This is a 50km race follows the John Muir Way through East Lothian’s most iconic towns, coastlines and rural trails. It was a wonderful atmosphere on the day with over 200 runners taking part. That’s a lot of rolls!

Station Yard Beer Festival

We were honoured when our friends at Station Yard Micro Pub in Dunbar asked us to get involved with their very first Beer Festival! It was so nice to be involved in a local event, providing our delicious homemade stout stovies for sale throughout the weekend. As always, they were made using locally sourced produce, with sausages from Linton Butchers up the road in East Lothian, lots of fresh veggies from Crunchy Carrot in Dunbar and of course, stout from Station Yard! They went down a treat! It was such a success that they’re holding another one 10th – 12th December so please do check out their Facebook page for updates.

Cani-Sports Edinburgh are coming to Foxlake!

If you’re a dog-lover like me, we have an event coming up that is one of our favourites! The Cani-Sports Edinburgh annual race at Foxlake takes place on 14th November. It was cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so this year’s event sold out in under 12 hours! Spectators are welcome with the fun kicking off at 8.30am and races starting at 10am. The start and finish line is right beside the café, so come and join us for an amazing day! From our hot griddle, we’ll be serving up our awesome hot breakfast rolls and our usual Grab & Go treats from the hatch. If you’re not sure what Cani-Cross is check out this YouTube video here.

Winter Opening Hours

We’ve been open 7 days a week throughout the school holidays and it’s been lovely seeing all the kids (and grown ups!) enjoying the activities at Foxlake Adventures. As the nights draw in and winter is upon is, we have our pretty fairy lights around the site, and fire pits to keep you warm. An update on our winter opening hours – we are now closed Monday – Friday and open 10am – 4pm on Saturday and Sunday only. We’ll be running a slightly reduced menu, with delicious breakfast rolls, homemade soups and toasties, breakfast rolls and usual traybakes and treats as well as hot and cold drinks – all available from the Jay Bird’s hatch.

We look forward to seeing you down at Foxlake soon.
