Jay Bird's Larder Re-brand

Updated: Aug 24, 2021

You may have noticed things are looking a little different down at the lake. We’ve had a makeover! Earlier in the year we took the decision to re-brand the café, from Boardside to Jay Bird’s Larder. There were lots of business reasons for this, but mainly, we just wanted a refresh and a name that honoured my family’s legacy and passion for cooking.

Jay Bird's Larder is Born

My father used to affectionately call me his little Jay Bird. In fact, I wear a necklace with this name on it around my neck every single day. So, it seemed very fitting when this name came up around the family dinner table, as one to consider for the café. We all agreed immediately that Jay Bird’s Larder was the perfect fit for us. The word ‘larder’ is a nod to the absolute abundance of high-quality locally produced food we are lucky to have on our doorstep here in East Lothian and across Scotland.

A family Affair

I’m incredibly blessed that my son, Jamie, who has a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry (and just happens to be a trained chef!), has chosen to come home and help me run the family business. He’s been instrumental in guiding us through the re-brand, as well as our most challenging year to date, due to the pandemic.

Our New Menu

At the heart of Jay Bird’s Larder’s ethos has always been my passion for cooking and good food, and that still stands as true today as it did the day we opened our hatch at Foxlake.

We wanted our new menu to reflect our new brand, and we have some delicious new additions, including our delicious Smash Burger and our Posh Dogs – all supplied from our local butcher just a few miles along the road. Supporting local and only using the finest ingredients is something we will never compromise on.

Jamie and I were keen the menu also reflected the changing times and changing eating habits of our customers. Our Vegan and Veggie Stacks and many gluten-free options cater for this growing market and we plan to add further and exciting options soon. Feedback is always welcome, so please do get in touch if you have any ideas or requests!

The Talent Behind The Brand

I want to give a huge thanks to my talented graphic designer son, Cameron, who has extraordinary design talent and was behind the whole rebrand. We couldn't, or wouldn't have considered doing this without his expertise. He guided and advised, designed and developed throughout the project, working many many hours to make sure it was perfect.

Watching my boys working together as a team was a lovely thing to witness, demonstrating their attention to detail and passion for food, ideas and sentiments just blew me away. My dad (their Gramps) would've been so proud too and would’ve loved the whole concept.

We all love it, and I hope you do too.

Until next time!

Jacquie
